General Power of Attorney

Structuring a general power of attorney when you need a trusted person to handle multiple administrative and civil matters on your behalf in Poland

Preparing a general power of attorney with a Polish notary in Wrocław

ONE PLUS helps clients prepare a general power of attorney in Wrocław and arrange signing before a Polish notary. We first establish what the authorised person actually needs to do, then prepare the wording, check the details and organise the notarial appointment at our Wrocław office. You do not need to find a template, lawyer and notary separately.

We prepare both broad and task-specific powers of attorney for use in Poland, Ukraine and other countries. They may cover dealings with public authorities, banks, notaries and courts, collection of documents, property matters, vehicles, inheritance, business matters and other formalities.

Where a broad document is not appropriate, we recommend a more specific power of attorney instead. The aim is not to give the representative the widest possible authority, but to prepare a document that works for the intended purpose.

Preparing a power of attorney in Wrocław

A power of attorney is useful when you need another person to deal with matters on your behalf because you cannot or do not want to attend in person.

For example, you may live and work in Poland while property, banking, inheritance or document-related matters need to be handled in another country.

Rather than travelling solely to sign a document, you can prepare the appropriate power of attorney in Wrocław and authorise a trusted representative.

At ONE PLUS, the process is organised in one place. We discuss the intended use, prepare the wording, verify the details and arrange signing before a Polish notary.

For straightforward cases, the document can often be prepared quickly, and the actual signing appointment commonly takes around 15 minutes.

What is a general power of attorney?

In everyday language, a general power of attorney usually means a document giving a representative fairly broad authority.

Under Polish law, however, pełnomocnictwo ogólne has a more specific meaning. It generally covers acts of ordinary management and does not automatically authorise every possible legal transaction.

If the representative needs to carry out an act beyond ordinary management, a specific or category-based authority may be required. Where the underlying transaction requires a particular legal form, the power of attorney may also need to satisfy that form.

This is why we start with the intended action rather than a generic template.

Selling property, dealing with an inheritance, carrying out a particular banking transaction or handling a vehicle may require tailored wording.

When a broad power of attorney makes sense

A broader document can be useful where the representative needs to handle several related matters rather than one isolated task.

Depending on the wording, the representative may be authorised to deal with public authorities, submit and collect documents, sign applications and perform other expressly listed actions.

Typical matters include public authorities, collection of documents, banking, vehicle matters, inheritance, property management, business matters and notarial procedures.

There is no single standard list of powers that is right for everyone.

General or specific power of attorney

A broad power of attorney is not always the best option.

If the representative is expected to perform one clearly defined action, a specific power of attorney is often more appropriate and easier for the receiving institution to assess.

Separate documents may be preferable for selling property, banking matters, inheritance, selling or registering a vehicle, collecting specific documents or representation before a particular authority.

If several different matters must be handled, we can consider a broader document.

You do not need to decide which type you need before contacting us. Tell us what the representative is supposed to do and we will propose the appropriate structure.

Power of attorney for use in Ukraine

Many ONE PLUS clients live in Poland but still have property, banking, inheritance, vehicle or document matters in Ukraine.

A power of attorney signed before a Polish notary can allow a representative to handle these matters without requiring you to travel solely for the purpose of signing the document.

The wording should be tailored to the intended use. A document for selling an apartment will not be drafted in the same way as one for collecting documents or dealing with an inheritance.

We therefore check the intended action and the receiving institution before preparing the document.

Is an apostille required for Ukraine?

Not in every case.

Poland and Ukraine are parties to a bilateral legal assistance agreement, and certain official documents may be recognised without additional legalisation.

Requirements should still be checked for the specific procedure and institution.

If an apostille is required, ONE PLUS can arrange an apostille for Polish documents as well.

Power of attorney for other countries

We also prepare documents intended for use in other countries.

Before drafting, it is useful to know the destination country, what the representative will do, which authority or institution will receive the document, whether a particular notarial form is required and whether an apostille or translation is needed.

If you already have a template or written requirements from a bank, notary, court or public authority, send them to us in advance.

Why a random online template can cause problems

A template found online may not contain the powers required for your particular matter.

Even a notarised document may be rejected if it does not authorise the necessary action.

Typical issues include missing authority, incomplete property details, missing vehicle information, no authority to sign a particular agreement or wording that is too broad or too narrow.

This can mean preparing and signing the document again.

At ONE PLUS, we therefore identify the purpose first and draft the document second.

How the ONE PLUS process works

1. Tell us what needs to be done

Explain who the representative will be, what they need to do and where the document will be used.

2. We identify the right type of authority

We assess whether a general power of attorney is appropriate or whether a more specific document is preferable.

3. We prepare the wording

The document includes the relevant personal details and powers required for the matter.

4. We arrange notarial signing

A Polish notary attends at our Wrocław office, so you do not have to organise a separate appointment elsewhere.

5. We can arrange additional formalities

Where required, we can also assist with an apostille or sworn translation.

What documents are required?

The exact requirements depend on the purpose of the power of attorney.

We normally need the details of the person granting the authority and the representative.

If the document concerns a particular asset or legal matter, additional information will be required.

Send us a short description first and we will tell you exactly what is needed.

Do I need a translation?

If a Polish power of attorney will be used abroad, a translation may be required.

The type of translation depends on the receiving institution. ONE PLUS can arrange a sworn translation and help establish the correct order of steps, especially where an apostille is also needed.

How much does a general power of attorney cost in Wrocław?

According to the current ONE PLUS price list, the general power of attorney service costs PLN 400.

The final amount may vary where additional services are required, such as notarial acts, translation, apostille or preparation of a specialised document.

We confirm the cost before starting the work.

How long does it take?

A standard document can usually be prepared within 1 business day, provided we have all the necessary information.

The signing appointment itself often takes around 15 minutes in straightforward cases.

More complex property, inheritance or corporate matters may require additional preparation time.

Where can I arrange a power of attorney in Wrocław?

The process can be organised through ONE PLUS in Wrocław.

In one place you can discuss the matter, provide the required details, have the document prepared, review the scope of authority, sign before a notary and arrange translation or apostille if required.

Address: Piłsudskiego 43, 50-032 Wrocław.

Why clients choose ONE PLUS

ONE PLUS has operated in Poland since 2018 and assists foreign clients with notarial, immigration and administrative matters.

We do not treat a general power of attorney as a one-size-fits-all template.

We first identify what the representative needs to do and then prepare the document around that purpose.

This makes the process clearer for the client and reduces the risk of having to prepare the document again.

Arrange a power of attorney in Wrocław

Send us the country where the document will be used, the representative’s details, a description of what they need to do and any template or requirements from the receiving institution.

Does a general power of attorney allow my representative to do everything?

No. Under Polish law, a general power of attorney does not automatically authorise every possible transaction. Send us a short description of the matter and we will provide the exact list.

Does a Polish power of attorney need to be translated for use abroad?

It depends on the destination country and the receiving institution. A sworn or certified translation may be required, and in some cases an apostille or another form of authentication may also be necessary. It is best to establish these requirements before the final document is prepared.

Do I need to find and book a notary myself?

No. ONE PLUS organises both preparation of the document and the notarial signing in Wrocław. This allows the client to handle the process through one point of contact rather than coordinating the drafting and notarial appointment separately.
