MOS 2.0 launches on April 27, 2026: how to apply for a residence permit.
13.04.2026

When MOS 2.0 Launches in Poland

From April 27, 2026, Poland officially introduces the upgraded MOS 2.0 system. From this date, applications for temporary residence permits, permanent residence permits, and EU long-term resident status will be submitted electronically via this platform. Additionally, starting May 4, 2026, the MOS system will also be used for CUKR card applications.

What Changes for Foreigners

The new system means that the main method of submitting residence applications will become fully online. This simplifies the process. At the same time, it requires proper preparation. Moreover, understanding of the new rules is necessary. It is especially important to take into account the transition period. This period covers the end of April and the beginning of May.

Transition Period and Key Risks

The highest risk applies to foreigners whose legal stay expires during this period. If your residence permit ends at the end of April or in the first weeks of May, postponing the application until MOS 2.0 goes live may be unsafe. In such cases, it is recommended to act in advance. This helps you avoid losing legal status.

Submitting Documents Before April 26, 2026

If you choose paper-based submission, one key rule must be followed. The documents must not only be sent but physically delivered to the voivodeship office no later than April 26, 2026. The shipping date does not matter. If the documents arrive later, the application will not be processed.

Do All Applications Move to MOS 2.0

Despite the launch of the new system, not all case types are transferred to the electronic format. In certain situations, paper submission will still be allowed. This applies to some employment-related procedures or family-based cases. Therefore, before submitting, it is important to verify whether your specific case falls under the MOS system.

How to Prepare for MOS 2.0 Submission

To use the system, you need to create an account and log in via login.gov.pl. You must also have an electronic identification tool such as Profil Zaufany. All documents should be prepared in digital form in advance. This includes photos, passport copies, and proof of payment. Depending on the case, additional supporting documents may be required.

After submitting the application, you will receive a confirmation. Next, you will be invited to the office for biometric data collection and, if necessary, additional document submission.

Conclusion and Next Steps

During this period, it is crucial to avoid mistakes in the submission process. An incorrect method or missed deadline may result in loss of legal residence status. It is recommended to carefully assess your situation and choose the correct strategy in advance.
