Driver’s License Exchange in Katowice: address and documents

Driver’s License Exchange in Katowice – How and Where to Do It?

Exchanging a driver’s license is a formality that every driver faces sooner or later. Regardless of the reason — expiration of validity, change of personal data, or the need to exchange a foreign license for a Polish one — we have prepared a detailed guide to help you navigate the license exchange process in Katowice.

📅 Driver’s License Exchange Due to Expiration

Currently, in Poland, driver’s licenses are issued for a maximum of 15 years. Once this period expires, the document loses its legal validity and must be replaced to maintain your right to drive. Don’t wait until the last moment — submit your application in advance!

Is a Medical Certificate Required?

Yes, but only in specific cases — if you have health-related restrictions (for example, vision problems) or if you hold a driving license of categories C, D, or their subcategories.

👰 Change of Personal Data – Mandatory Document Exchange

If you have changed your surname after marriage, first name, or any other personal data, you have 30 days to contact the relevant authority and exchange your driver’s license. Failure to do so within this period may result in administrative issues and a fine.

🆘 Loss, Damage, or Theft of a Driver’s License

If you have lost your license or it has been stolen — immediately contact the Department of Communications at: ul. Francuska 70, Katowice.

If it was a theft — first file a report with the police and obtain the appropriate certificate. Only after that should you submit an application for a replacement license.

🧾 Exchange of a Lifetime Driver’s License

If you have a lifetime (non-expiring) driver’s license, a mandatory exchange will only take place between 2028 and 2033. If your data does not change and the document is not lost before that time, you do not need to take any action.

Driver’s License Exchange for Foreigners

If you are a citizen of Ukraine, Belarus, or another non-EU country and wish to exchange your driver’s license for a Polish one — below is the current list of required documents (as of July 2025):

Required Documents:

  • Original and copy of a valid driver’s license (the original is shown but not taken away),
  • Completed application form (available for download online or on-site),
  • Passport — original and copy,
  • PESEL UKR / residence card / national visa — original and copy,
  • Certified (sworn) translation of the driver’s license into Polish,
  • One photo (3.5 × 4.5 cm, may be attached to the application),
  • Current registration of residence in Poland (certificate not required — data is verified automatically by the system),
  • Verification of the authenticity of the driver’s license:
    • confirmation from the consulate, or
    • screenshot from opendata.hsc.gov.ua (preferably in English),
  • Proof of payment: 100.50 PLN (can be paid on-site or online via info-car.pl),
  • Document confirming your stay in Poland for at least the last 185 days (rental contract, employment agreement, etc. — for review only, not submitted to the archive).
